Corey Taylor und Dave Grohl waren kürzlich gemeinsam zu Gast in der Kevin & Bean Show des L.A. Radiosenders KROQ, um über das „Sound City" Projekt des FOO FIGHTERS Frontmanns zu sprechen.
Im ersten Teil des Interviews erklärten die beiden, welche Faszination hinter den Sound City Studios steckt und was es mit Dave Grohls Projekt (Dokumentation, Soundtrack...) genau auf sich hat. Taylor berichtete zudem von den Aufnahmen des SLIPKNOT Albums „Iowa", die ebenfalls dort stattfanden.

The 4th and final song from the Sludge/Doom Swedes forthcoming "Sole Creation" album, poetically entitled "Skymning" and featuring a great clean vocal line by David Johansson, can be downloaded (or streamed) at:
Quoted as "taxing, dangerous and by all means exciting" by The Metal Observer as well as "a chest-puffing good time" by Decibel Magazine, "Sole Creation" by KONGH will hit the shops on the 5th of February in Europe and 19th of February in North Amercia on Agonia Records.
"Sole Creation" will consist of 4 new tracks and 45 minutes of music, with a guest appearance of John Doe from Craft. The album was recorded at Teknikkompaniet (Vetlanda, Sweden) by Peter Lundin; mixed and mastered by Magnus Lindberg of Cult Of Luna fame.

Vancouver progressive rockers FEN have posted a video for their title track from their fifth and latest album 'Of Losing Interest' released last summer via indie label Ripple Music to follow up their fourth release 'Trails Out Of Gloom'.
"The song 'Of Losing Interest' broke new ground for us. We didn't try to shape it into some convoluted or grandiose structure. We just let the riff be a riff and do its job and we kept the dynamics fairly steady throughout. At one point I considered titling the song, The Grump, based on the fact that the lyrics are from the perspective of someone who detests social interactions and does what he can to either cut them short or avoid them altogether. Overall, the video is a lofi attempt to reveal what might be inside his head." comments vocalist / guitarist Doug Harrison.

Their heaviest and most technical album to date, 'Of Losing Interest' is an album that revisits the band’s harder edged metallic past while retaining the melodic sensibilities that made 'Trails Out of Gloom' so alluring. In January of 1998, in the mountain shadows of Nelson, British Columbia, a creatorship emerged called Fen. The road has been long for this dark-leaning band, which after more than a decade of obscurity, was finally ushered into the prog and metal fan’s psyche. This occurred in 2010, when Fen signed to California label Ripple music and released their fourth album Trails Out Of Gloom. The album garnered impressive reviews from bloggers and print magazines worldwide, including mention in the UK’s Classic Rock magazine and a perfect 16/16 score from the US authority on prog: Progressions Magazine. To follow up this attention, in May of 2011, the management of UK/Israeli prog veterans Blackfield invited Fen to open for them on the Vancouver stop of their North American tour.
To date, Fen’s music has sold in more than fifteen countries, and with the help of dedicated bloggers, two AAA-radio campaigns, and a music video for the single “Miracle,” the band’s following continues to expand. In surprising contrast to the dark nature of Fen’s music, their songs have been placed on HGTV (Home and Garden Television) and Animal Planet’s, From Underdog to Wonderdog, among others. The song “Through the Night” will soon be available on the video game RockBand.
Fen has performed at clubs and festivals throughout BC, and in the summer of 2011, took part in the Forest Symphony at UBC’s Pacific Spirit Park. Fen’s fifth album, Of Losing Interest, will be available in August 2012, and is a return to the heavier aspects of the bands sound. It is their second release under the Ripple Music label, and it brings together a band line up first assembled in 1999.

KVELERTAKs euphorisch aufgenommenes selbstbetiteltes Debüt von 2011 war iTunes US Metal Breakthrough Artist of the Year in 2011. Pitchfork beschrieb ihre Musik als „monolithische Wände von nebennierendrüsenerdrosselndem Sound", während LA Weekly Frontmann Erland Hjelvik auf Platz #2 ihrer Liste der Top 10 Metal-Fronter unter 30 wählte.
In ganz Europa heimste die Band zahlreiche Auszeichnungen ein: KVELERTAK wurden von Norwegens Rock-Autorität Asbjørn Slettemark als „bestes norwegisches Debüt aller Zeiten" bezeichnet, der deutsche Metal Hammer vergab das Prädikat „bestes Debütalbum", beim Spellemannprisen (Norwegens Äquivalent zum Grammy) gab es die Auszeichnungen „Best New Artist" und „Best Rock Album" und auch in UK frohlockten der Metal Hammer und das Kerrang! Magazin, die sie zur „aufregendsten neuen Band auf diesem Planeten" kürten.
Sie stürmten 2011 das SXSW Festival, wurden von Mastodon eingeladen, sie im norwegischen Bergen zu supporten, und bekamen bei einer ausverkauften Show in der Telenar Arena, Norwegens größtem Indoor-Venue, von Dave Grohl persönlich ihre ersten Goldenen Schallplatten überreicht – und doch starten KVELERTAK, oder auf Deutsch „Würgegriff", erst jetzt richtig durch.

Er berichtete außerdem, wie das Bandgefüge aufgebaut ist was das Geschäftliche angeht (zwei sind fleißig, die anderen beiden... eher nicht) und was die Vorzüge der französischen Clubs (im Gegensatz zu den amerikanischen) sind.

BORNHOLM aus Ungarn spielt eine großartige Art von melodischem Pagan/Black Metal, welche über alle Merkmale des Stils verfügt und dazu dem Genre einzigartige neue Impulse gibt. ECHTRA’s Sky Burial, the first issuance in the triumvirate of the Passage Cycle, is an exploration of the dissolution of our mortal coil. If human consciousness recognizes the inescapability of its own demise, then an essential aspect of becoming truly human is grappling with the inevitability of our own death. This is what ECHTRA has sought with the Sky Burial project, attempting at the same time to create an aural and visual space in which others may do the same.
Influenced by the Vajrayana’s cosmological views on the passaging of consciousness between lifetimes, and utilizing the sonic palette of acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards, drums, and vocals, this project is undoubtedly ECHTRA's most fully realized manifestation thus far. Aesthetic echoes of doom and black, acoustic arpeggios driving spirit into form, sparse vocalizations uttering the manifesto of an unqualified acceptance of eventual transformation: these are some of the tools employed in service of the soul’s embrace of a body consumed by the winged ones.
For the first time, audial documentation has been augmented by video, depicting the one and only performance of Sky Burial, offered on December 19th, 2008, as the final offering of the first night of the Spire: A Twilight Language Yule gathering in Olympia, Washington, USA. ECHTRA was joined for this performance by Lina McLean, Johnny Delacy, and Steve Joyner/CoRE. The video footage from this live performance has been licensed for this release from Adam Torruella.
Written and recorded in the long ago of Litha MMVII, and mastered by Mell Dettmer near Lughnasadh MMXII, ECHTRA's Sky Burial is now issued by TEMPLE OF TORTURUOUS for the benefit of all beings. TOTAL NEGATION's second release, Zur Späten Stunde | Zeiträume, combines two conceptual linked EPs. Strict sound structures plus good compositional work has always been a feature for mainman Wiedergaenger's music projects. This time, he takes one step forward and enters into more open and intriguing territory, which results in a totally refreshing and retrospective sound and a different musical approach compared to the highly acclaimed debut album, Zeitenwende.
Zur späten Stunde is the nightly trip of a resting mind and body with psychedelic escapades. Lyrically, it explores the transcendental moments and the delirious state of mind right before drifting off to sleep. These short moments have to be recognized, properly handled and used to your advantage. Meanwhile, Zeiträume features instruments like the vibraphone and melodica, which are rather uncommon within the metal scene. They are taking the main lead in this particular EP, while the four songs are circling around the visions in our dreams and how they blur with reality.
The black metal roots are still apparent, but this TOTAL NEGATION release shows how a musician can free himself from genre-specific ingredients and dogmas, follwing the path and state of mind of many krautrock musicians in the late '60s and early '70s.

11843: TOMBSTONE HIGHWAY premiers new song
Italy’s Southern Rock/Doom Metal act TOMBSTONE HIGHWAY has premièred a new song off the debut album entitled "Ruralizer", coming out February 28th in Europe and March 19th in North America on Agonia Records. The song entitled "Bite the Dust (and bleed)" - featuring guest appearance by electric guitar virtuoso Mario Percudani (HungryHeart, Mitch Malloy) - can be streamed at the following location:
Apart from Mario Percudani, "Ruralizer" will also feature guest appearances by Hammond maestro Paolo "Apollo" Negri (Wicked Minds, Black Widow, Hasselvander) and Razor SK (Forgotten Tomb).
Joe Hasselvander (ex-Pentagream / The Hounds Of Hasselvander) commented on the release: "Absolutely cool! Good old swamp infested blues metal!"
Music of TOMBSTONE HIGHWAY is a classic blend of feisty Stoner/Southern Rock and Doom Metal, with catchy guitar solos and old-school heavy metal parts that may remind of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Corrosion Of Conformity, Pride and Glory, Down, Black Sabbath, or even ZZ Top. Apart from Hard Rock instruments, the band uses also a banjo and Hammond organs.
"Ruralizer" will consist of 8 original songs and a cover of Mountain's "Mississippi Queen" with a playing time of almost 50 minutes. The album will be made available on Digipack CD and digital download. "Ruralizer" was recorded at Elfo Studios by Daniele Mandelli who is also in charge of mix and mastering.
The band commented: "We're very proud of how the album came out and we strongly believe it's the perfect way to begin our legacy. People into heavy, ballsy southern-tinged Hard Rock should take note!"

Jackson Live veröffentlichte kürzlich das unten stehende Video, in dem Mark Morton (LAMB OF GOD) neben seiner Signature-Gitarre auch darüber sprach, wie wichtig das Instrument für ihn und seinen Entwicklung war. Außerdem gab er zu, dass er immer noch nicht richtig glauben kann, dass die Fans nun zu ihm aufsehen, wie er es zu seinen Vorbildern tut.
